Thai-Style Chicken and Lettuce Wraps: A Fresh and Delicious Recipe

On a summer evening, nothing beats a refreshing and flavorful salad for a light and delicious dinner. These Thai-style chicken lettuce wraps are the perfect solution: quick to prepare, bursting with exotic flavors, and leaving you feeling light and refreshed. Imagine: crisp romaine lettuce, tender chicken marinated in a fragrant Thai sauce, all enhanced with crunchy vegetables and a touch of peanuts. A burst of freshness in your mouth, guaranteed!

This recipe is inspired by my travels in Thailand, where I discovered the richness and subtlety of the local cuisine. I wanted to recreate this culinary experience in a simple and accessible version. Get ready for a culinary journey, without even leaving your kitchen!

These wraps are perfect for a quick lunch, a light dinner, or a unique appetizer. They can be made ahead and are easy to transport, making them a great choice for picnics or lunches at the office. So, let's get started on this easy and delicious recipe!

Ingredients

Serves 4:

  • 400g of chicken fillet
  • 2 tablespoons of soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon of honey
  • 1 teaspoon of grated fresh ginger
  • 1 teaspoon of garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon of chili powder (or more according to your preference)
  • 1 tablespoon of sesame oil
  • 4 large romaine lettuce leaves
  • 1 grated carrot
  • 1 cucumber cut into julienne strips
  • ½ cup chopped fresh coriander
  • ½ cup of chopped fresh mint
  • ¼ cup crushed roasted peanuts
  • Choice of sauce (Thai vinaigrette, satay sauce…)

Instructions

  1. Chicken preparation: In a bowl, combine the chicken, soy sauce, honey, ginger, garlic powder, chili, and sesame oil. Let it marinate for at least 30 minutes in the refrigerator.
  2. Cooking the chicken: Pan-fry the chicken over medium heat for approximately 8-10 minutes, or until cooked through and golden brown. Alternatively, you can bake it in the oven at 180°C (350°F) for 20 minutes.
  3. Preparing the wraps: Place a romaine lettuce leaf on a plate. Add a portion of cooked chicken, grated carrot, cucumber, coriander, mint, and crushed peanuts.
  4. Presentation and serving: Roll the lettuce leaf to form a wrap. Serve immediately with the sauce of your choice.

Chef's Tips

For a more intense marinade, leave the chicken to marinate overnight in the refrigerator.
Feel free to add other vegetables as you like: peppers, red onions, bean sprouts…
For a vegetarian version, replace the chicken with firm tofu, previously marinated in the same way.

Conservation

It's best to eat these lettuce wraps the same day to enjoy the freshness of the vegetables. You can prepare the ingredients in advance (cooked chicken, chopped vegetables) and assemble them just before serving.
