Its origins date back to the late 19th century when it was supposedly created by accident by the Tatin sisters in their inn in Lamotte-Beuvron. Ingredients
For 6 servings:
- 6 apples (Golden or Granny Smith)
- 150 g of sugar
- 100 g of butter
- 1 puff pastry
- 1 teaspoon of cinnamon (optional)
- 1 tablespoon of lemon juice
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F).
- Peel and cut the apples into wedges. In a bowl, mix the apples with the lemon juice and cinnamon, then set aside.
- In an oven-safe skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the sugar and let it caramelize until it reaches a golden color.
- Arrange the apple wedges on the caramel in a nice pattern. Cook for about 10 minutes until the apples start to soften.
- Roll out the puff pastry over the apples, tucking the edges inside the skillet.
- Bake the tart for about 30 minutes, until the pastry is golden brown.
- Once out of the oven, let it cool for a few minutes before gently flipping the tart onto a serving platter.
- Serve warm or at room temperature, ideally with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of fresh cream.
Chef's Tips
For an even more indulgent touch, you can add pieces of nuts or chocolate chips to the caramel before placing the apples. Feel free to experiment with different varieties of apples to find your favorite combination.
